pink and silver! that’s exactly what i have..hehe anyway i just turned it on..i’ll post a pic maybe 1-2 hours later after the lava starts bubbling =D

are lava lamps expensive there? they are less than S$100 here i think..maybe $70 for the medium sized ones?..i can’t really remember..i’ll take a pic of the lamps in my room and post them later..i have 3 sorta interesting ones..one is a hot pink lava lamp..one is a cute beaded lamp from japan and one ikea lamp that looks like frosted glass hehe
wow i love decorating..i’ll let u know if i have any other ideas

I dunno… i think about AU$100 or so. I’m going to hunt around and see if I can find a pink or silver one, if not, I can buy one online for about AU$70 or so I think! Yours sound sooo pretty though, please post a pic if you can!

here’s the pic of the lavalamp

it’s hot pink not red as shown in the pic though..weird lighting..anyway the frosted glass lamp next to it is from ikea..i reminds me of a block of ice hehe..anyway it’s really cheap..maybe 12 bucks?

here’s my beaded lamp from japan

LOVE the lava lamp! Did you buy it in Singapore? I found one on ebay that’s similar but it’s about US$40 inclusive of shipping – think it’s a good price? The beaded lamp is so pretty though – especially near the window where it catches the light πŸ™‚

yeah i bought the lavalamp here in singapore..they are quite a few places that sell them..i think it costs maybe SGD$70? i think US$40 is reasonable..how big is it though? do u have a pic? if it’s around the same size as mine it’s quite an ok price

my beaded lamp was cheap! maybe SGD$30-40?
i stopped using it coz it’s 110 and using the transformer is soo troublesome..it’ll be perfect when i go to the states this fall though

I think they sell around Australia too, actually I’m sure they do.. but I never noticed the price. Actually, Chris got one for his bday but it’s blue πŸ™ I think I want to buy it from a store – no waiting time and I’m worried it might break in the mail or something.

i’m sure if it’s a respectable company that sells the lavalamp online they should know how to pack it such that it doesn’t break during shipping

but then again there’s always that what if..why don’t u check around maybe it’s not too expensive over there? =D

ikea is a great idea..their stuff is nice but affordable! happy shopping!

i though a hot pink lava lamp would look cool with your mink rug but this is unneccessary and expensive hehe

Ooooooooh a pink lava lamp!! That’s such a good idea.. I’m going to have to get one, when I.. er.. have the extra cash. Or as a present πŸ˜›

Hiya Bev:)
Welcome to working life:)
Its always as if you don’t have enough time for anything…but you kind of get used to it after a while:) I’m so glad you got the place you wanted:)
As for the decoration, you can either do everything at one go or you could do up your room and the kitchen(the necessary stuff) and then just build on that as time goes on…especially for the living room. The reason is, if you do everything at a go,you might find that you’d want a different “theme’ for your living room some time later it would be such a waste to have bought everything brand new and then decide you don’t *really* like it.
Does the place you live have things like garage sales and flea markets? If it does you and Ross can go decoration hunting and I’m sure you’ll find lots of cool stuff and cheap too:)
Maybr you could even check out Debbi Travis ( the painted house show) website. She has great ideas for decoration and stuff:) Also, get any second hand mag. of home deacoration you can get your hands on and see what different ideas you can come up with based on them.
As for your room, since its your space, I’m sure you’d have an idea of what you would want in it, so go with your instincts:)
Maybe even for your room you could wait to by stuff like a nice cosy chair for you to sit and do *nothing* or read in till you check out any garage sales /flea markets:)
Sometimes, old is gold, can refer to furnitures and decorations as well:)
Post up some pics so we can have an idea of what you’re talikng abt:)

*lol* so true about the “don’t have time to do anything”! 3/4 of your day is gone at work, so by the time you get back you just have a quick dinner and want to bum around and then sleep.

Ros and I can’t go to garage sales cos we don’t have a car πŸ™ But Ikea has pretty cheap stuff – I guess we’ll get essentials first and do decorating and cute stuff later! I have a pic of the place, I took it about a week ago so it has nothing in it.. must remember to upload it when I get home πŸ˜›

i was just about to tell you that ikea has some really nice ideas, but it looks like someone else got to you first! πŸ™‚

decorating

wow, lucky! such a big place to decorate. this is the fun part of moving. the packing, unpacking, cleaning is no fun. but decorating always says so much about your personality.

about your quilt: is your bed a double bed or single size? if it’s single size, you can still get a double size quilt but the ends of it will drag on the floor when you cover the bed. i wasn’t sure if you had carpet or hardwood flooring. think dust bunnies on the ends of the quilt. =) get a double if you like snuggling in blankets like me. but why not try the single size quilt for now while you’re saving money? unless there’s a good sale on for quilts.

ikea has good sales and most things are not that expensive. do you like ikea stuff? try http://www.ikea.com.au/. from reading your journal, i think you have a very cheerful and outgoing personality similar to opalline. is there a specific colour theme you had in mind? maybe white, pink and light blue? (because you mentioned your rug was pink and bed was silver) so those colours would work with your furniture. oh, i saw a set of bowls, dishes and plates (18 pieces) for sale at the ikea website since you mentioned dishes: http://www.ikea.com.au/prod_template4.asp?product_id=17321&se_id=37&page_id=96169300251009&Cat=15&Scat=62. i picked australia east because i wasn’t sure if you were in western au or eastern au.

hope everything works out for you! put up some pics later. =)

Re: decorating

OMG cool, I didn’t realise they had a website! I’m going to check out the stuff and post the furniture I’m getting πŸ™‚ OH, and my loft bed is a double bed – I already have a single bed quilt so I think I’ll save money and just use that instead of buying a double bed quilt.

You’re right though, my bed’s silver and the rug’s pink, so I think I’ll keep with that color scheme.. and some baby blue too cos that’s the color of the sofa πŸ™‚
